Shillong– In a shocking development, Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime suspect in the murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, has confessed to her role in the crime during questioning by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), sources confirmed on Wednesday.

According to officials, Sonam admitted to planning the murder, and her confession was formally recorded in the presence of Meghalaya Police officers, confirming her direct involvement in the killing that has captured national attention.

Sonam, along with four other accused—her alleged boyfriend Raj Kushwaha and three suspected contract killers, Anand Kurmi, Akash Rajput, and Vishal Singh Chauhan—will be produced before a court in Shillong.

Investigators revealed that the three hired assailants traveled separately from Indore to Shillong to avoid suspicion. Their movements were meticulously tracked using CCTV footage, train ticket bookings, and photocopies of Aadhaar cards, which enabled police to verify their identities and trace their journey to Meghalaya.

On May 23, the suspects allegedly posed as tourists and joined the couple on a trek in the Cherrapunji region. According to local guide Albert Pde, who spoke with police, the group declined his assistance and chose a remote, challenging route instead of the more commonly used trail leading to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge. He also noted that the group communicated in Hindi and seemed intent on avoiding crowded areas.

Sonam was arrested after she surrendered at the Nandganj police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district early Monday morning. Her surrender came after days of mounting pressure from a coordinated, multi-state operation involving police forces from Meghalaya, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.

Authorities believe Sonam plotted her husband’s murder in advance and enlisted the help of contract killers to carry out the crime during what was supposed to be a honeymoon trip. The remaining suspects were apprehended during a series of raids conducted across Madhya Pradesh.

The investigation continues as officials work to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy behind the premeditated killing. (Source: IANS)
