BOSTON– A powerful grassroots movement is surging across Massachusetts as Indian and South Asian communities call for justice in response to a wave of targeted home invasions. A widely circulating petition, titled “Letter of Support: Demand for Justice and Protection of South Asian Families,” is urging the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office to fully prosecute those responsible for a disturbing pattern of break-ins affecting at least 43 families in Eastern Massachusetts.

The crimes, described by many as “calculated and culturally targeted,” have left families shaken — not only by the loss of heirloom gold and valuables, but by the deep violation of cultural identity and safety.

“These were not random break-ins,” the petition states. “The perpetrators knew exactly what they were looking for — heirloom gold, symbols of tradition, and deeply personal treasures that connect us to our ancestors.”

For many South Asian families, such items are sacred links to heritage — and their theft represents more than a financial blow; it’s a trauma that cuts to the heart of community and belonging.

Community leaders are now rallying support, urging residents and allies to sign the petition and demand accountability. The petition also calls for broader reforms, including increased cultural awareness in law enforcement and stronger protections for immigrant and minority communities.

“The sentence must reflect the scale and severity of what our community has endured,” it reads. “Let it send a message that targeting vulnerable communities will never be tolerated.”
