Seminar on the British Period in India On Nov. 30 in Lincoln, MA

LINCOLN, MA—India Discovery Center, a Lincoln, MA-based nonprofit organization dedicated to create educational program on India for the youth and the public worldwide, will host a day-long seminar on the British period in India from 1800 to 1947 in Lincoln, MA.

Entitled “Let us Explore the Cultural History of India: A Seminar on the British Period” will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Bemis Hall in Lincoln from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

The all-day event features analysis of history in six tracks:

  1. Geography and People
  2. Art and Culture
  3. Language and Literature
  4. Philosophy and Religion
  5. Economy and Politics
  6. Science and Technology.

Along with the analytic surveys, there would be three special guest presentations, organizers said in a statement.

Mr Mool Raj Mathur, 93, will enumerate his experience as a participant in the Quit India movement and offer an eye-witness account of the India’s independence on August 15, 1947.

Dr Bhagwan T Shahani, a neuroscientist, will present the events during the chaos of the partition of India including his own plight to move to Bombay from Karachi.

Syed Mahmood Alam, an eminent Islamic scholar, will present the historical context of the Islamic communities in India and the birth of Pakistan.

Vocal rendering of freedom songs in various Indian languages will be presented by the local musicians and video clips of the period will be shown for historical context.
