Santoor, Taraana, Harmonium, Saxophone and Kirana Gharana: A Series of Free Music Events to Kick-off LearnQuest Conference 2017

Boston is about to glow in the aura of phenomenal musicians showering  melodies and rhythm both to culture the connoisseur’s mind and cajole the lover’s soul.

LearnQuest Music Conference 2017 is about to take-off with a hurricane of free events starting this Friday. If you want to get some unique insights into Indian classical music put these on your calendar and follow the musical trail as it travels the  Sangeet ‘addas’ of  Boston-area.

The first stop in this journey is Jawed’s ‘The Hall’ on Friday, April 7th at 7PM where in a ‘Saxophone Jugalbandi’, Phill Scarff and Sumanta will compete to prove the supremacy of their respective styles: Hindustani and Carnatic. Accompanists Gaurishankar Chandrasekhar (Mridangam) and Amit Kavthekar (Tabla) will fuel the fire. The hall is located at 125 Prospect Street, Framingham, MA.

On Tuesday, April 11th between (1-3PM) at Berklee College of Music (David Friend Recital Hall), Pt. Satish Vyas would unleash his ‘Music of Santoor’ in a lecture-demonstration accompanied by Amit Kavthekar (Tabla). Join the college students in this perfectly timed (1-3 PM) post-breakfast event.

On Wednesday, April 12th at 7PM at the Academy of Creative Arts, Vidushi Subhadra Desai presents a lecture-demonstration on ‘The Enticing World of Taraana’. This is a unique opportunity to listen and understand the nuances of this exciting musical form from a scholar-musician who combines deep insights melodiously through her sonorous voice. She will be accompanied by Rajesh Pai (Tabla) and Ravi Torvi (Harmonium). The Academy is located at: 12 A Street, Burlington, MA 01803.

On Thursday, April 13th at 7PM at the Academy of Creative Arts there will be a lecture-demonstration by the master Harmonium player Ravindra Katoti taking us on a ‘Journey of Harmonium’. He will be accompanied by Rajesh Pai on the Tabla. The Academy is located at: 12 A Street, Burlington, MA 01803.
