WALTHAM, MA– Radio MusicIndia, formerly Sounds of India that served the Indian community in Massachusetts for over four decades, has doubled its weekly broadcast time to two hours.

“Encouraged by its passionate listeners’ demands, Radio MusicIndia (RMI) will now be extended to a two-hour format – and will continue to educate and entertain audiences,” anchors of Radio MusicIndia said in a statement to INDIA New England News. “The first hour of the show will be dedicated to Classical Indian Music and the second to Bollywood.”

The Radio MusicIndia is hosted by Sanjay Jain, Anuradha Palakurthi, Syed Ali Rizvi and Pradeep Shukla, and is broadcast on Sundays from 10:00 AM to noon on WLYN 1360 AM and on WLYN.Radio.Net .

The inaugural new-format episode was aired on May 6 for which the classical section featured an interview with Pandit Jasraj, facilitated by MIT’s Heritage Arts of South Asia, known as MITHAS.

“Pt. Jasraj’s, the brightest star of Hindustani vocal music, was a sprightly octogenarian and discussed his life and music,” said the statement. “The Bollywood section was inaugurated by Ameen Sayani, India’s most-loved legendary Radio personality through his “Sitaron Ki Udaan” series where Ameen Saheb, in his inimitable prose and poetry, narrates the life-stories of Bollywood’s leading lights.”

The inaugural episode focused on Raj Kapoor. RMI will air this series for the next 21 weeks.
