Quad Nations Aligned on Deeper Cooperation for Free and Open Indo-Pacific, US Envoy Says
New Delhi — The United States, India, Australia and Japan remain aligned on strengthening Quad cooperation and delivering tangible results for a free and open Indo-Pacific, U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said Thursday.
Gor made the remarks after meeting Australian High Commissioner to India Philip Green and Japanese Ambassador to India Keiichi Ono to discuss upcoming Quad initiatives and meetings.
“Productive discussions today with Australia’s High Commissioner to India Philip Green and Japan’s Ambassador to India Ono Keiichi on upcoming Quad initiatives and meetings. Together with India, our four nations are aligned in advancing closer collaboration and delivering results for a free and open Indo-Pacific,” Gor wrote on X.
The Quad brings together India, Australia, Japan and the United States and focuses on regional security, economic resilience, emerging technologies, humanitarian assistance and other areas of cooperation across the Indo-Pacific.
Last month, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar joined Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio for a Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Manila.
The four ministers reaffirmed their commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific and expressed support for ASEAN unity and centrality in the region.
“As ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partners, we, the Secretary of State of the United States and the Foreign Ministers of Australia, India, and Japan, met today in Manila to reaffirm our commitment to strengthening a free and open Indo-Pacific and our unwavering support for ASEAN unity and centrality,” the ministers said in a joint statement.
They also discussed regional challenges and efforts to support implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific, including cooperation on maritime and transnational security, economic prosperity, critical and emerging technologies, humanitarian assistance and emergency response.
The joint statement said the Quad remains united in the view that peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific maritime domain are essential to the region’s security and prosperity. (Source: IANS)
