New Delhi– Veteran Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara believes the upcoming five-match Test series in England will be a defining moment for Indian cricket, as a new generation of players prepares to take center stage. The series, which begins June 20 at Headingley, marks a major transition following the retirements of stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

India will be led by new captain Shubman Gill and vice-captain Rishabh Pant, signaling a bold new era for the team. Historically, India has struggled in England, winning only three of 19 Test series played there—the last coming in 2007 under the leadership of Rahul Dravid.

“The India-England Test series has always tested a team’s grit and adaptability,” said Pujara in a statement released by Sony Sports Network, where he will serve as a panelist for the broadcast coverage. “In the past 100 years, India has won only three Test series in England, highlighting how difficult this challenge is. But with a young and dynamic squad, this tour represents a significant turning point for Indian cricket. I’m eager to see how this group steps up and sets new benchmarks for future generations.”

The remaining matches in the series will be played at Edgbaston, Lord’s, Old Trafford, and The Oval. The tour also marks the beginning of India’s campaign in the new cycle of the ICC World Test Championship.

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan, who will also join the broadcast panel, expressed strong confidence in the team led by Gill. The campaign’s promotional tagline, “Naya India, Dhaakad India,” reflects the bold mindset of this emerging side.

“Test cricket in England is the ultimate test of skill, temperament, and character,” said Pathan. “This new generation of players isn’t just continuing a legacy—they’re writing their own chapter in Indian cricket history. The phrase ‘Ground Tumhara, Jeet Hamari’ captures the fearless spirit of this team. I truly believe they have the talent and resolve to meet the challenges ahead and inspire a new generation of fans back home.”
