Piyush Goyal Urges US Manufacturers to Expand Investment in India
Milwaukee/New Delhi — Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday urged American manufacturers to expand their presence in India and explore new investment opportunities as economic ties between the two countries continue to deepen.
Goyal said he addressed a business roundtable organized by the National Association of Manufacturers, bringing together representatives of both small and large U.S. manufacturing companies.
During the meeting, he highlighted what he described as strong momentum in India-U.S. economic relations, along with India’s growing industrial base and skilled workforce.
In a post on X, Goyal said he invited American manufacturers to deepen their operations in India, partner with Indian small and medium-sized enterprises and co-invest in advanced manufacturing projects aimed at strengthening supply chains and creating value in both countries.
The outreach comes as India and the United States continue negotiations on a bilateral trade agreement.
Goyal is expected to meet U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer as the two sides seek progress toward what they have described as a balanced and mutually beneficial trade deal.
The minister is also scheduled to attend the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at the invitation of the U.S. Trade Representative.
According to an official statement, India and the United States are working toward finalizing an interim trade agreement in line with a joint statement issued by the two countries on February 7, 2026.
India is also expected to use the G20 discussions to support a rules-based, open, inclusive, transparent, equitable and non-discriminatory global trading system with the World Trade Organization at its center.
Goyal is scheduled to hold a series of bilateral meetings during his U.S. visit focused on strengthening trade and investment ties.
The discussions are expected to cover opportunities for farmers, fishermen, women entrepreneurs, startups, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and other businesses.
Goyal is also set to meet senior executives from leading U.S. companies in manufacturing, consumer goods, agribusiness, retail and technology during stops in Milwaukee and Chicago. (Source: IANS)
