BURLINGTON, MA—Over 3,000 people attended India’s 75th Republic Day celebrations organized by India Association of Greater Boston, known as IAGB.
The event, themed as “Chalachitram—110” commemorating 110 years of Indian Cinema, was held on Jan. 27 at Burlington High School in Burlington, MA.
“An event of this caliber would not have been possible without the support of the community,” said IAGB President Tanu Phoenix. “The celebration reflected how a strong sense of heritage and community collaboration can result in a large and successful gathering.”
Since its founding in 1962, IAGB has helped maintain a strong sense of heritage and community for Indian Americans of all ages and backgrounds by helping them come together and celebrate traditions.
Organizers said that IAGB’s Grand Republic Day Mela 2024 saw over 3,500 Indian American community members in New England coming out to celebrate and enjoy this heart-warming mela.
Raj Sharma, America’s top financial advisor and Managing Director – Wealth Management and head of The Sharma Group, a high-end boutique within Merrill Lynch’s Private Banking and Investment Group, served as chief guest. Arsh Mehrotra was given community champion award the IAGB.
The event included competitions in various categories, including Art, Bollywood, Carrom, Chess, Math, Teeny Tiny Shark and Junior Shark.
Other community organizations that took part in the celebrations included Bangla O Biswa, India Society of Worcester, Maheshwari Mahasabha of North America, New England Kannada Koota (NEKK), New England Malayalee Association (NEMA), Odisha Society of New England (OSNE), Prabasi of New England, Tamil Makkal Mandram (TMM)
