WORCESTER, MA– Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus of Bangladesh will speak on micro finance and social economy on April at the Becker College in Worcester, MA. Becker College last year established the Yunus Social Business Centre at Becker College.
Professor Yunus will be the featured speaker at Becker College’s Presidential Speaker Series on April 5, 2016, at Mechanics Hall in Worcester, according to college officials.
“Dr. Muhammad Yunus is a distinguished leader who has effected positive change, transforming lives and communities on a global scale. It is an honor and a privilege to welcome Dr. Yunus to Massachusetts for the Becker College Presidential Speaker Series, so our students, community leaders, and the public can hear first-hand about his vision.” said Becker College President Robert E. Johnson.
He said the vision for the Yunus Social Business Centre @ Becker College is to be a national model in empowering individuals to identify world problems and create self-sustaining business solutions, while creating jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities that spur economic development.
“The Seven Hills Foundation serves as a partner for the Yunus Social Business Centre @ Becker College and provides Becker students and faculty with opportunities at project sites around the world to effect positive and self-sustainable change. The Yunus Social Business Centre @ Becker College will be housed in Becker’s new Colleen C. Barrett Center for Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship,” added Johnson.
Becker College is the first in the United States to establish Yunus Social Business Centre. The College’s Centre focuses on identifying real-world social problems, creating innovative, self-sustaining solutions to transform lives and communities.

Nobel Laureate Yunus pioneered the concept of social business, utilizing micro-finance to help develop self-sustainable businesses. He established the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh in 1983, fueled by the belief that credit is a fundamental human right.
Professor Yunus has been recognized with more than 100 awards from 26 countries, including the Nobel Peace Prize, the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the U.S. Congressional Gold Medal, according the website of Becker College.
