Nana Patekar death: Final post-mortem report out, rules out foul play

MUMBAI— The final post-mortem report in the death of veteran actor Nana Patekar has confirmed that he died of natural causes following a massive heart attack, ruling out foul play, Goa Police said on Sunday.

A team of doctors at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bambolim, concluded that the actor’s death resulted from a cardiac arrest triggered by the interruption of blood supply to the heart due to a blood clot in the main coronary artery.

Goa Police confirmed the findings to IANS, adding that Patekar’s family had been informed about the report and had not raised any objections to the medical conclusions so far.

According to the final post-mortem report, the blockage of the main coronary artery disrupted blood flow to the heart, resulting in the fatal cardiac event.

At around 2.30 a.m. on October 8, Patekar reportedly informed a family friend through WhatsApp that he was feeling unwell. He was subsequently taken to Manipal Hospital in Dona Paula, where doctors declared him dead despite administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for approximately 45 minutes.

Police likely to close unnatural death case

Following the actor’s death, Panaji Police had registered an unnatural death case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), under Unnatural Death (UD) No. 62/2026.

With the final post-mortem report establishing a natural cause of death, police indicated that the case would be closed soon.

The report also ruled out foul play involving Patekar’s son, Malhar Patekar, and nephew, Prasad Patekar, according to the information provided by the police.

The medical findings have addressed the circumstances surrounding the actor’s death, with the family reportedly accepting the conclusions of the post-mortem examination.

Several prominent members of the film fraternity attended the funeral to pay their final respects. Among those present were actor Jackie Shroff, directors Anil Sharma and Anees Bazmee, and producer Firoz Nadiadwala.

A large number of fans and members of the public also gathered at the farmhouse to bid farewell to the veteran actor.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid his last respects to Patekar at Pune airport before departing for Mumbai. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the actor’s farmhouse in Pune to offer his condolences.

The final post-mortem findings bring clarity to the medical circumstances surrounding Patekar’s death, with police expected to complete the remaining formalities before closing the case. (Source: ANS)
