Microsoft Opens Hyderabad Cloud Region as India AI Demand Grows
New Delhi — Microsoft has launched a new cloud region in Hyderabad, expanding its data center footprint in India as demand for artificial intelligence and cloud services continues to rise.
The India South Central region is now generally available and includes three Availability Zones designed to support large-scale, mission-critical workloads. Microsoft said the infrastructure complies with India’s regulatory requirements and local seismic standards.
With the Hyderabad launch, Microsoft now operates four cloud regions in India. Its other regions are located in Pune, Chennai and Mumbai. The company also operates two data centers through a partnership with Jio.
Microsoft said the new region will give customers more options to run eligible cloud services and store workloads within India, helping organizations meet security, compliance, governance and data residency requirements.
Adani Group, Bajaj Finserv, HDFC Bank and PB Pay are among the companies that received early access to the Hyderabad region.
The company expects the facility to support businesses seeking to modernize older systems, build digital services and deploy AI applications. Microsoft said its Azure business has recorded strong double-digit growth in India over the past two years.
The launch follows a series of major investment commitments by Microsoft in India. The company announced a $3 billion investment in January 2025 and later pledged an additional $17.5 billion in December 2025 to expand its cloud and AI infrastructure.
Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia, said organizations need trusted digital infrastructure located close to where their data is stored and business decisions are made to turn AI experimentation into long-term value. (Source: IANS)
