Mumbai– Singer Maahi, son of celebrated playback singer Shaan, has released his latest single Jaan Se Zyada, featuring actress Aadhya Anand in the music video. The track, which dropped on Friday, marks another step in Maahi’s journey to carve out his own identity in the music industry while carrying the legacy of his iconic father.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS, Maahi addressed the inevitable comparisons with Shaan and reflected on how he handles the weight of expectations.
When asked if he consciously tried to make Jaan Se Zyada sound different from his father’s style, Maahi responded, “It wasn’t a conscious decision. I think there’s always going to be that identity — being Shaan sir’s son. Naturally, I want to build my own name in the industry, and comparisons will happen. But it wasn’t like I chose this song just to step out of his shadow.”
He added, “The song has its own charm, and I brought in my style, which made it sound a bit different. But if Dad had sung it, I’m sure it would have sounded absolutely gorgeous in that classic Shaan style we all love.”
On whether he feels pressure living up to such a legacy, Maahi admitted there is some, though not directly from his father.
“Dad doesn’t put pressure on me personally, but yes, there’s a sense of responsibility in carrying forward the legacy. A little pressure is good — it pushes you to work harder,” he said.
Sharing his excitement about the track, Maahi wrote on social media, “The wait’s finally over and this one’s Jaan Se Zyada beautiful!”
