MALDEN, MA—Popular local singer Salman Wajahat Dar passed away early Sunday morning at his home in Malden, MA. He was 65. Janazah prayer funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 8, after Zuhar Namaz at the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center (ISBCC) in Roxbury, MA.

Dar is survived by his wife, three daughters and grandchildren.

The prayer services will start at noon on Tuesday at ISBCC, which is located at 100 Malcolm X Blvd. in Roxbury. A burial ceremony will follow later in the afternoon at Canton Cemetery in Canton, MA, said Razia Mashkoor, a family friend. The ceremonies are open to all.

Mashkoor said the cause of Dar’s death was not known immediately, but he suddenly passed away at 2:10 AM Sunday after he went to bed after working on his computer at his home in Malden, MA.

Dar was a popular local singer who sang Bollywood songs at local musical programs and in private parties.

Salman was born in Kashmir, India, and moved to Pakistan when he was 4-5 years old after partition of India, Mashkoor said.

“He was like a brother to me,” Mashkoor said.

Menka-Motwani Jethra, who knew Dar for about six years, said the community has lost a great soul.

“He is a big loss to me. He was a great soul,” Jethra said. “He was a gem of a person who had a heart of musical gold.”
