Kumar Sanu Recalls Anu Malik’s Spontaneous Songwriting During 1990s Collaborations
MUMBAI — Veteran playback singer Kumar Sanu has recalled working with composer Anu Malik during the 1990s, praising his ability to create multiple versions of a song almost instantly.
Appearing on “India’s Best Dancer Season 5,” Sanu said Malik’s spontaneity was one of the qualities that made their collaborations memorable.
“I haven’t seen anyone create songs as instantly as he does,” Sanu said. “If a producer didn’t like a song, he would sing it in 14–15 different ways right then and there. He sings so beautifully that eventually, you are bound to like one of them.”
Host Haarsh Limbachiyaa later invited Sanu to perform, with Malik joining him onstage. Sanu then sang “Sambhala Hai Maine,” his popular song from the 1994 film “Naaraaz.”
After the performance, Sanu again praised Malik’s contribution to Hindi film music during the 1990s.
“Just think about the kind of contribution he made during the 90s,” Sanu said. “He gave so much to music, not just through one song, but through many such tracks. This is not an easy song to sing; it is a difficult one.”
The upcoming episode of “India’s Best Dancer Season 5” will feature Malik and Sanu as guests for the “India Wala Dance” theme.
The episode, titled “Great Grand Tashan,” will also feature performances by contestants Ritesh and Prateek.
