Giridih (Jharkhand)– A brutal double homicide shocked residents of Lukaiya village in Jharkhand’s Giridih district late Wednesday night, when a man fatally stabbed his wife and was later lynched by villagers as he tried to flee, police said Thursday.
According to authorities, 35-year-old Chhotelal Hansda murdered his wife, Meena Hansda, at her parental home during a heated argument. The couple had been married for eight years but had been living separately due to ongoing marital discord. Meena had recently returned to her village amid efforts by relatives to reconcile the two.
Police said Chhotelal had visited Lukaiya village in recent days. On Wednesday night, tensions flared between the two, culminating in Chhotelal stabbing Meena multiple times with a knife, killing her instantly.
As he attempted to escape, villagers and members of Meena’s family pursued him. Enraged by the killing, they caught Chhotelal and beat him severely. He died at the scene from his injuries.
Law enforcement officials, including Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Jeetwahan Oraon and Mufassil police station in-charge Shyam Kishore Mahato, arrived at the scene shortly after receiving information.
“Chhotelal Hansda, who was trying to flee after murdering his wife, was caught and beaten to death by villagers,” said SDPO Oraon. “We are filing two separate FIRs—one for the murder of Meena Hansda, and another for the lynching of Chhotelal Hansda. Legal proceedings are underway against those involved in the assault.”
The bodies of both individuals have been sent for post-mortem examinations. The gruesome incident has triggered widespread mourning and outrage in the community. (Source: IANS)
