NEW DELHI, India — External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will begin a three-day visit to the United States on Monday to take part in the Critical Minerals Ministerial convened by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the Ministry of External Affairs said.
According to the ministry, the ministerial will focus on strengthening supply chain resilience, advancing clean energy transitions, and enhancing strategic cooperation in the critical minerals sector.
During the visit, scheduled from February 2 to February 4, Jaishankar is also expected to hold meetings with senior members of the U.S. administration.
The trip follows a series of recent diplomatic engagements between the two countries. Last week, Jaishankar met U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor in New Delhi, where the two discussed multiple aspects of bilateral relations.
“Pleased to meet US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor today in New Delhi. Our conversation covered the many dimensions of our partnership. Welcomed him and expressed confidence that he would contribute to the strengthening of India – US relations,” Jaishankar posted on X.
On January 25, Jaishankar also met a U.S. Congressional delegation comprising Mike Rogers, Adam Smith and Jimmy Patronis, along with Ambassador Gor, in New Delhi. Discussions during that meeting covered ways to strengthen bilateral ties, developments in the Indo-Pacific region, and the ongoing Ukraine conflict.
Following the talks, Jaishankar wrote on X: “Congressional interactions have always been an important facet of our relationship.”
Earlier, on January 13, Rubio held a phone conversation with Jaishankar to review key areas of cooperation, including civil nuclear energy, trade negotiations, and regional security in the Indo-Pacific.
Describing the call as positive, Ambassador Gor said the two leaders discussed future steps in the relationship.
“They discussed next steps regarding our bilateral trade negotiations, critical minerals, and a possible meeting next month,” Gor wrote on X. (Source: IANS)
