ONTARIO, Canada — External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand met on the sidelines of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Niagara to review ongoing cooperation and progress under the New Roadmap 2025, aimed at strengthening India-Canada relations across trade, energy, and security sectors.
Anand welcomed Jaishankar to the G7 gathering and later shared on X, “We discussed cooperation on trade, energy, security, and people-to-people ties.” According to Canada’s Department of Global Affairs, the meeting marked the third discussion between the two ministers this year, reflecting renewed diplomatic engagement and growing momentum in the bilateral relationship.
During the talks, Anand expressed condolences over the recent explosion in Delhi and reiterated Canada’s solidarity with the people of India. Both leaders discussed the ongoing law-enforcement dialogue between Indian and Canadian authorities and reviewed the implementation of the Canada-India Joint Roadmap, which outlines plans to expand collaboration in energy, trade, and people-to-people exchanges.
“Minister Anand reiterated Canada’s appreciation of India’s participation in the G7 discussions this year, recognising that as the world’s fourth-largest economy and with more than 75 years of diplomatic relations, India is an important partner for Canada,” the department said in a statement. The two ministers agreed to remain in contact as both countries continue to implement the roadmap.
Jaishankar also highlighted the positive momentum in bilateral cooperation. “Delighted to meet with FM Anita Anand of Canada today. Congratulated her on hosting the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. Appreciated the progress in the implementation of the New Roadmap 2025. Look forward to the further rebuilding of our bilateral partnership,” he posted on X.
The meeting comes a month after Anand’s visit to India, where the two sides outlined an ambitious plan to rebuild ties and expand cooperation following recent diplomatic tensions.
