BANGKOK– Indian diplomatic missions across the globe marked the nation’s 79th Independence Day with vibrant celebrations, reflecting the spirit of patriotism and unity among the Indian diaspora and friends of India worldwide.
In Thailand, Ambassador of India to Thailand Nagesh Singh hoisted the national flag during a ceremony at the Indian Embassy in Bangkok. The event drew more than 500 members of the Indian community and friends of India from various walks of life.
Greeting attendees, Ambassador Singh read President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the nation delivered on the eve of Independence Day. The program featured patriotic music and dance performances by community members. The Ambassador also honored members of the Indian diaspora for their role in assisting Indians in distress and for promoting Indian culture throughout Thailand, the Indian Embassy in Bangkok said in a post on X.
In Australia, the Consulate General of India in Sydney celebrated the day at the Consulate premises, where Consul General S. Janakiraman unfurled the Indian flag and read President Murmu’s address. The event was attended by members of the Indian community and friends of India, showcasing a strong sense of unity and pride.
The cultural program featured performances highlighting India’s heritage. Usha Sridhar and her team presented songs in praise of India, followed by a dance and vocal tribute by Nisha Mannath and her group. The event concluded with a special performance by the Rajasthani dance troupe HIS Group, led by Ishu and supported by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi, the Consulate posted on X.
In Myanmar, over 500 guests, including members of the Indian diaspora and friends of India, attended celebrations at India House in Yangon. Ambassador Abhay Thakur hoisted the flag, read President Murmu’s address, and presided over a series of cultural performances.
In the Philippines, about 300 people attended Independence Day festivities at India House in Makati City, Metro Manila. Ambassador Harsh Kumar Jain hoisted the national flag, greeted guests, and read the President’s message.
In his remarks, Ambassador Jain highlighted the recent declaration of the India–Philippines strategic partnership during the State Visit of the President of the Philippines to India. He emphasized that the partnership will expand cooperation in trade and investment, defense and security, science and technology, agriculture, health, culture, tourism, space, and maritime domains, as well as people-to-people exchanges — ushering in a new era of multifaceted and impactful engagement for the benefit of both nations.
The cultural segment featured a Kathak performance by Sweta Thakur, a dance presentation by students from Sathya Sai School, patriotic songs by an Indian choir, and a lively Bhangra performance by the Filipino Indian Commerce & Welfare Society Inc., the Indian Embassy in the Philippines posted on X.
