Indian Stock Markets Extend Winning Streak to Seven Sessions as Sensex Surges 1,718 Points

MUMBAI–Indian stock markets extended their rally for a seventh consecutive trading session Friday, marking their longest winning streak in three years, as strong buying in banking and financial services stocks pushed the Nifty above the 25,000 mark for the first time in more than eight months.

The BSE Sensex surged 1,718.01 points, or 2.17%, to close at 81,028.02, while the NSE Nifty 50 gained 493.75 points, or 2.01%, to finish at 25,030.35.

The advance lifted the Nifty to its highest closing level in nine months, with the benchmark reclaiming the psychologically important 25,000 threshold for the first time since February 27, 2026.

Friday’s gains extended a market recovery that has gathered momentum amid improving corporate earnings, easing concerns over the conflict in West Asia and renewed investor interest in Indian equities.

Banking and financial services companies were among the strongest performers, with investors increasing their exposure to major financial institutions.

Mahindra & Mahindra, ICICI Bank and HDFC Life Insurance Company were among the leading gainers on the Nifty, providing significant support to the benchmark’s advance.

Market analysts also pointed to a shift in global investment strategies, as investors reduced exposure to stocks associated with the artificial intelligence boom and redirected funds toward other sectors.

The rotation has supported renewed interest in traditional industries and financial services companies, contributing to the recent strength in Indian markets.

The seven-session winning streak represents the longest uninterrupted advance for India’s benchmark equity indexes in three years.

Technical analysts said the Nifty’s move above 25,000 was an important development, although the index could face resistance as it approaches higher levels.

The immediate resistance range is estimated at 25,150 to 25,200, with analysts suggesting that a sustained breakout above that zone could strengthen bullish momentum and create opportunities for additional gains.

“A decisive and sustained move above this range could reinforce the bullish momentum and open the door for further upside,” analysts stated.

On the downside, market watchers identified 24,800 as an important near-term support level.

“On the downside, 24,800 is expected to provide immediate support. The index’s ability to sustain above this level will be crucial in maintaining the current upward trajectory, while a decisive breach could trigger near-term profit-booking,” market watchers noted.

Despite the sharp gains in the headline indexes, the broader market delivered a mixed performance, indicating that the rally remained concentrated in select large-cap stocks.

The Nifty MidCap 100 index slipped 0.02%, while the Nifty SmallCap 100 declined 0.82%, reflecting weaker investor demand for smaller companies.

Among sectoral indexes, the Nifty Private Bank index recorded the strongest performance as investors continued accumulating banking stocks.

The Nifty Media index, meanwhile, was the weakest-performing sector during Friday’s session.

The divergence between large-cap benchmarks and the broader market suggested that investors remained selective, favoring established companies and sectors supported by strong earnings expectations.

With the Nifty closing above 25,000 and the Sensex surpassing 81,000, investors will now be watching whether the market can sustain its upward momentum and overcome the next major resistance levels. (Source: IANS)
