Washington– An Indian all-party parliamentary delegation, led by MP Shashi Tharoor, met with U.S. Senator Andy Kim and Vice President J.D. Vance on Friday as part of a high-level outreach to strengthen cooperation between India and the United States in key areas including counterterrorism, trade, and technology.
The delegation briefed Senator Kim—who serves on the U.S. Senate Homeland Security Committee—on the recent Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir that claimed the lives of 26 civilians. They also discussed India’s strategic and measured military response under Operation Sindoor and reiterated the country’s firm resolve to respond decisively to any future acts of terrorism.
“The Indian parliamentary delegation led by Dr. @ShashiTharoor had a wonderful conversation with @SenatorAndyKim, Member of the U.S. Senate Homeland Security Committee, and briefed him on the heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India’s measured and precise response during Operation Sindoor, and our firm resolve to respond swiftly to any such incidents in the future. The conversation also spanned productive areas of cooperation, including entrepreneurship, trade, technology, and counterterrorism,” the Indian Embassy in Washington wrote in a post on X.
Earlier in the day, the delegation met with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, continuing a series of diplomatic engagements aimed at deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
“The All-Party Parliamentary Delegation led by Dr. Shashi Tharoor called on Vice President J.D. Vance this morning. The conversation focused on strengthening the India-U.S. partnership, including cooperation in the counter-terrorism domain,” the Embassy noted in another post.
Tharoor also shared highlights from the meeting, calling it “an excellent and wide-ranging discussion.”
“Excellent meeting with Vice President J.D. Vance today in Washington D.C. with our delegation. We had comprehensive discussions covering a wide array of critical issues, from counter-terrorism efforts to enhancing technological cooperation. A truly constructive and productive exchange for strengthening the India-U.S. strategic partnership, with a great meeting of minds,” Tharoor wrote on X.
Vice President Vance was in India at the time of the April 22 Pahalgam attack. In its aftermath, he called Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express strong condemnation of the violence and conveyed the United States’ readiness to offer “all assistance” in the shared fight against terrorism.
