New Delhi– Indian troops joined their Chinese counterparts in celebrating the 70th National Day of China at several places along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday.

Cultural programmes were organised and mementoes exchanged between delegations of both nations along with hoisting of national flags and rendition of national anthems as part of the joint celebrations.

The army and the Border Security Force (BSF) held ceremonial border personnel meetings, a mechanism to discuss local issues for peace and tranquillity along the border, with China’s People’s Republic Army. The ceremonies were held at Nathu La, Bum La and Kibithu along the LAC.

Just a fortnight ago, the two armies had had a face-off on the LAC in the Ladakh region. The matter was settled after intervention by senior officials of both countries.

“The proceedings reflected a mutual desire to maintain along the LAC environment of peace & tranquillity, prerequisite for good relations between both the nations,” said an army statement.

During the interaction, participants reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen friendship and maintain peace & tranquillity along the LAC, the statement added.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to visit India on an official tour later in October. (IANS)
