DUBLIN/NEW DELHI — World leaders and foreign envoys have extended condolences and solidarity with India after a deadly explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi on Monday evening, which claimed at least eight lives and left several others injured.
The blast occurred when a Haryana-registered vehicle parked near Gate No. 1 of the metro station suddenly exploded, sending shockwaves across the national capital and prompting heightened security measures.
Ireland’s Deputy Prime Minister Simon Harris expressed support for India in a message posted on X. “Deeply saddened by the tragic explosion in Delhi this evening. Our thoughts are with all those who lost their lives, the injured, and their families. We offer our full support and solidarity with the people and Government of India at this difficult time,” he said.
China’s Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, also conveyed his condolences. “Saddened by the explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort metro station. My deepest condolences to the victims, and my thoughts are with everyone affected,” he wrote on X.
Germany’s Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann, said he was “devastated and shocked” by the news and extended his sympathies to the families of the victims. He also wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry issued a message of support, stating, “Ukraine shares the grief of the people and government of India following a tragic explosion in the heart of New Delhi that claimed lives and injured many. We express condolences to the victims’ families and wish a speedy recovery to those who have been injured.”
In the United Kingdom, Conservative MP Priti Patel also commented on the tragedy and urged the British government to remain attentive to its citizens in Delhi. “Horrifying reports from Delhi. My thoughts are with the families of those killed, the emergency responders, and the Indian people, as they confront this dark moment. The UK Government must support British nationals in Delhi and respond to requests for assistance,” she wrote.
