WALTHAM, MA–INDIA New England News, the region’s premier online and print newspaper, announced that it will bestow Lifetime Achievement Award to a New England woman every year who has made extraordinary contributions in her chosen field, profession or community service.

Upendra Mishra, publisher of INDIA New England News, said that the Lifetime Achievement Award will be given during the newspaper’s flagship annual Woman of the Year Awards gala that honors 20 women in various categories and an independent panel of judges selects a Woman of the Year from among them. This year’s Woman of the Year Awards gala marks the 12th anniversary and will be held on June 5 at the Burlington Marriott Hotel in Burlington, MA.

“Based on hundreds of nominations we receive every year, we felt that it was necessary to acknowledge contribution of more women to our society and our community,” Mishra said. “We are very excited about this new landmark award we will be introducing this year.”

Mishra said that unlike the competitive and flagship Woman of the Year award, which is based on nominations and selected by a panel of independent judges after heavy deliberations and reviews, Lifetime Achievement Award will be based on recommendations from the community to the editorial team of INDIA New England News. He urged INDIA New England readers to send their recommendations to: editorial@MishraGroup.com.

Dr. Manju Sheth, who won 2011 Woman of the Year Award and is the producer of INDIA New England’s popular Chai with Manju series, and has been playing a vital role in organizing the Woman of the Year, said there are so many accomplished women in the area who deserve such recognition.

“I became increasingly involved in women’s causes after becoming Woman of the Year in 2011 and a judge in the following year for this great award,” said Dr Sheth. “One of the important things that struck me while judging this award with other judges was the immense qualifications of the 20 finalists. I also work very closely in the community and have noted that there are so many wonderful women who do not get nominated for WOY. There are also some who have been finalists for many years and have not won Woman of the Year award but have a lifetime of extraordinary achievements and service. They do deserve an award and recognition for their work. Awards have a way of inspiring others and also opening up more windows of opportunities. I talked to INEN team about it last year and am very glad that they liked my idea which has been supported by many community leaders too. I am looking forward to celebrating the achievements of some wonderful women on June 5.”

The Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to a New England Woman who has made an extraordinary contribution in her chosen field, profession, community service or in any area such as in the world of art, music, dance, literature, education, business and government and politics, among others.
