India Look to Clinch T20I Series Against West Indies in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD, India — India will aim to secure a series victory when they face the West Indies in the fourth T20 international Wednesday at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, where batting-friendly conditions could set the stage for another high-scoring contest.
Leading the five-match series 2-1 following their victory in Indore, India will look to maintain their momentum, while the West Indies need a win to force a deciding fifth match.
Hyderabad has developed a reputation as one of India’s most productive batting venues, with short boundaries and favorable pitch conditions contributing to several high-scoring matches.
The stadium has witnessed successful T20 international run chases of 208 and 187, while domestic and Indian Premier League matches have produced totals of 310, 297, 286 and 277 over the past two years.
The venue is also home to Sunrisers Hyderabad, whose aggressive batting approach has been led by players including Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen.
Although the pitch has recently been relaid, conditions are expected to favor batters, particularly if dew becomes a factor during the second innings. No rain is forecast for Wednesday’s match.
India will enter the contest with concerns about their bowling despite consistent performances from their batting lineup.
The hosts have struggled to defend imposing totals during the tour, including their highest T20 international score and third-highest ODI total.
India will be hoping for a more balanced performance from their bowlers, particularly if they are required to defend another substantial total.
The West Indies, meanwhile, could benefit from Hyderabad’s relatively consistent bounce, which is expected to suit their aggressive batting lineup.
Conditions may prove more favorable than those encountered in Indore, where India successfully defended their total to take the series lead.
The toss could play an important role, with only one of the six matches played during the tour resulting in a victory for the team batting first. Dew could further influence the decision to bat or bowl.
One of the key individual contests could feature Indian opener Abhishek Sharma against West Indies off-spinner Roston Chase.
Chase played an important role in the visitors’ victory in Ranchi, dismissing Abhishek, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer.
India may retain the bowling combination that delivered success in Indore, where the team selected an additional fast bowler instead of wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav.
Although spin proved effective during that match, the hosts could again favor an extra pace option on a surface expected to encourage aggressive stroke play.
The West Indies will also monitor the fitness of all-rounder Romario Shepherd, who suffered an injury while bowling in Ranchi.
Shepherd was able to bat in that match but missed the subsequent contest in Indore. His return would strengthen the visitors’ pace attack while adding valuable lower-order batting depth.
India could also turn to Naman Dhir, who has demonstrated an unusual ability to respond after conceding boundaries. All five of his international wickets have come immediately after being hit for six, highlighting his effectiveness against attacking batters.
India have won four of their last five T20 matches, while the West Indies have lost three of their previous five.
The hosts will enter Wednesday’s contest with a series victory within reach, although the West Indies’ powerful batting lineup remains a threat on a ground where large totals have become increasingly common.
