India Eye Series Win Against West Indies in Second ODI in Guwahati
Guwahati — India will look to clinch the three-match ODI series against the West Indies when the teams meet Wednesday at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, a venue where the hosts have enjoyed considerable success.
India took a 1-0 lead in the series after chasing down 297 in the opener in Thiruvananthapuram, powered by a brilliant unbeaten 139 from Virat Kohli and a 110 from captain Shubman Gill.
Kuldeep Yadav played a key role with the ball, taking 4-40 as India recovered after the West Indies made a strong start.
India return to Guwahati with an unbeaten ODI record at the venue, having won both of their previous matches there. Kohli has scored centuries in both games, while Rohit Sharma has also registered a century and a half-century at the ground.
Barsapara Cricket Stadium has generally favored batters, with all four innings in the two ODIs played there producing totals above 300. That could put both bowling attacks under pressure after a high-scoring opening match.
In Thiruvananthapuram, Kohli struck 139 not out from 88 balls, while Gill made 110 from 108 deliveries. Rohit also contributed 32 from 35 balls.
The West Indies had earlier put India under pressure with the bat. John Campbell scored 62 from 60 balls, while Justin Greaves made 101 from 108 deliveries.
The visitors reached 135 without loss after 19 overs before India fought back, with Kuldeep leading the recovery.
Some of India’s other bowlers had a difficult outing. Nitish Kumar Reddy finished with figures of 1-45, while debutant Naman Dhir conceded 33 runs in five overs without taking a wicket. Gurnoor Brar also went wicketless, giving up 60 runs from his 10 overs.
India could consider changes to the bowling attack, with Mohammed Siraj and Auqib Nabi having sat out the opening match.
There may also be an opportunity for Dhruv Jurel or Yashasvi Jaiswal as India look to wrap up the series with one match remaining.
The second ODI will begin at 2 p.m. IST on Wednesday at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
The match will be broadcast on the Star Sports Network and streamed on JioHotstar.
