India-England semifinal delivered ‘tension, thunderous cheers and unforgettable moments,’ says BCCI secretary

New Delhi — BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia praised the dramatic ICC Men’s T20 World Cup semifinal between India and England at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, saying the high-stakes contest featured “tension, thunderous cheers and unforgettable moments.”

Saikia shared his reaction on X, formerly Twitter, after India secured a place in the tournament final following a closely fought match on Thursday evening.

“Tension, thunderous cheers, & unforgettable moments — the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup semifinal between winner India & England at Wankhede Stadium last evening had it all in the bouquet…” Saikia wrote.

Several senior cricket administrators attended the match at the iconic stadium, including International Cricket Council chairman Jay Shah, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal, BCCI chief Mithun Manhas and vice president Rajeev Shukla.

India defeated England by seven runs in the second semifinal of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, setting up a final against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Batting first, India posted a formidable total of 253 for 7, led by an aggressive performance from Sanju Samson. England mounted a strong chase but ultimately fell short, finishing just seven runs behind in a high-scoring thriller.

The two teams combined for 499 runs during the match, the highest total in a men’s T20 World Cup game.

With the win, India advanced to the final as defending champions and reached the tournament’s title match for the fourth time, the most appearances by any team in the history of the T20 World Cup.

The Men in Blue now stand one victory away from becoming the first team to successfully defend the T20 World Cup title. When they face New Zealand in Sunday’s final in Ahmedabad, India will also be aiming to become the first host nation to win the tournament and the first team to claim three T20 World Cup titles.
