PERTH– The Indian and Australian armies are conducting the fourth edition of their joint military exercise, AUSTRAHIND, in Perth, focusing on counter-terrorism operations and deepening defense cooperation between the two nations.

The bilateral exercise, which began on October 13 and will continue through October 26, underscores growing strategic collaboration and shared security objectives in the Indo-Pacific region. According to India’s Ministry of Defence, this year’s drills emphasize “joint company-level counter-terrorism operations in urban and semi-urban terrain, with a focus on the current security environment.”

Troops from both countries are refining tactics for complex urban operations and conducting simulated United Nations peacekeeping missions to test coordination under realistic field conditions. These exercises are designed to strengthen operational readiness, promote interoperability, and ensure both forces can collaborate effectively in future peacekeeping or humanitarian efforts.

Officials said the two armies are engaging in tactical drills, exchanging combat experiences, and sharing best practices to enhance mission effectiveness. Beyond the battlefield component, the exercise also promotes cultural exchange and mutual respect.

“Soldiers from both nations have had the opportunity to showcase their respective cultural heritages, helping to strengthen the bond of friendship and mutual respect,” the Ministry noted.

AUSTRAHIND serves as a platform not only for developing military skills but also for fostering camaraderie and long-term cooperation. The ongoing collaboration reflects the shared commitment of India and Australia to regional peace, security, and stability. (Source: IANS)
