Gujarat Man Arrested for Allegedly Promoting ISIS Ideology Online

AHMEDABAD — A 32-year-old man from Lodai village in Bhuj taluka has been arrested by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the West Kutch Police for allegedly promoting the ideology of the extremist group ISIS through social media, officials said on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Fakirmamad Isha Gagda, was reportedly operating multiple accounts across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp under different identities. Police said he shared videos, images, and written material influenced by extremist propaganda, including references to former ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
According to investigators, the content was intended to mislead individuals and encourage support for extremist causes, including the idea of a “caliphate” and violent jihad, posing a threat to national security and social harmony.
The arrest followed specific intelligence inputs gathered through ongoing surveillance efforts. Officials said the SOG closely monitored the suspect’s digital activity and recovered evidence from his mobile phone, which has since been seized. The data reportedly includes multiple instances of objectionable content shared over time.
Superintendent of Police Vikas Sunda said the operation was part of strengthened intelligence efforts following last year’s Operation Sindoor. “Based on important inputs received and developed by the SOG, the team succeeded in apprehending this individual during the course of investigation,” he said, adding that further inquiry is ongoing.
Police officials noted that preliminary findings confirm repeated posting of extremist content, while investigations continue to determine whether the accused had any financial links or direct contact with operatives associated with ISIS.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant online, report suspicious activity, and verify information before sharing it on social media. Legal proceedings have been initiated, and further investigation is underway. (Source: IANS)
