Gor Discusses Strong Future Of India-US Ties After Meeting President Donald Trump

WASHINGTON — U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said he discussed the future of India-U.S. relations and global stability with President Donald Trump during a meeting in Washington, highlighting what he described as a strengthening partnership between the two countries.
In a post on X, Gor said the dinner with Trump focused on the trajectory of bilateral ties and broader geopolitical issues.
“Just had an outstanding dinner with President Trump. We discussed his unwavering determination to bring global stability, the historic achievements of his presidency, the strong future of India-U.S. ties, and so much more! A very memorable evening as history unfolded in real time,” Gor wrote.
The meeting came shortly after Trump announced a two-week pause on planned military strikes against Iran, while Tehran signaled a willingness to reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, suggesting a possible easing of tensions.
Gor also met U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, with discussions centered on expanding economic cooperation and strengthening commercial ties between the United States and India.
“Productive meeting with Secretary Howard Lutnick on the U.S.-India commercial roadmap. We discussed a new MoU connecting India’s AI scale with the American AI ecosystem, strong Indian participation at the upcoming SelectUSA Summit, and growing Indian pharma investment in the United States to boost competition and strengthen supply chains,” Gor said in a separate post.
The talks included a proposed memorandum of understanding aimed at linking India’s growing artificial intelligence capabilities with the U.S. technology ecosystem, reflecting increased collaboration in emerging sectors.
In a statement, the U.S. Department of Commerce said Lutnick and Gor are working to advance a broader trade framework between the two nations.
“Today, Secretary Lutnick met with U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, advancing President Trump’s historic U.S.-India trade deal,” the department said on X.
“Together, we are working to open a market of 1.4 billion people to American products and secure over USD 500 billion in U.S. exports,” it added.
Gor also met Vice President J.D. Vance earlier in the day as part of a series of high-level engagements.
Separately, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrived in Washington late Tuesday to review the full scope of India-U.S. relations and advance cooperation across key sectors. (Source: IANS)
