JAIPUR– Two foreign tourists were robbed aboard the Mandore Express late Tuesday night, losing valuables worth ₹2 lakh in an incident that has raised serious concerns about passenger safety on Indian trains.

The theft occurred as the train traveled through Rajasthan on its route from Delhi to Jodhpur. Officials said the victims had boarded from Jaipur, placing two bags near their seats in the First AC coach. Shortly after departure, they discovered the bags missing.

The stolen items included ₹2 lakh in cash, Apple AirPods, an Apple Pencil, and important travel documents.

“We were asleep and woke up to find our bags missing. Everything important was inside — money, gadgets, papers,” the tourists said. They immediately alerted the Ticket Examiner and onboard security staff.

Upon arrival in Jodhpur, the victims filed a complaint with the Railway Protection Force (RPF). Both RPF and Government Railway Police (GRP) have launched a joint investigation.

Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) Vikas Kheda met with the victims at the station, calling the incident “a serious matter” and vowing swift action. “An investigation has been launched, and the culprits will be arrested soon,” he assured. Kheda also questioned how the theft could occur in a First AC coach, which is normally under GRP surveillance.

Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and examining passenger rosters to identify the suspects. Railway teams are conducting detailed inquiries, with officials promising that those responsible will be caught quickly.

The incident has sparked debate among passengers about the adequacy of onboard security, particularly for international visitors traveling on India’s premium trains. (Source: IANS)
