New England has produced several winners in national and international pageants in the past. Bostonian Monica Gill first won Miss India New England a few years ago, and then went on to win the Miss India USA and Miss India Worldwide titles after that.

Armaghan graduated from UMass Dartmouth with an undergraduate degree from the Charlton College of Business in May.

Any single woman between 18 and 27 is qualified to participate for the Miss India title. For the Miss Teen title, the person must be between 13 and 17 years of age. For Mrs. India, there is no age requirement as long as the person is married.

The local Miss India New England pageant, which is part of the national Miss India USA pageant, was held on Saturday at Atkinson Resort & Country Club in Atkinson, NH, and was organized by local pageant director Ruchika Arora.
