Jaipur– A BJP leader and his girlfriend have been arrested in connection with the murder of his wife in Rajasthan’s Ajmer district, police said on Saturday.
Rohit Saini (35), a resident of Kishangarh in Ajmer and a solar panel installer by profession, was arrested for allegedly plotting and executing the murder of his wife, Sanju Saini (32), with the help of his girlfriend, Ritu Kumar (25).
Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Deepak Kumar confirmed that both accused were involved in the conspiracy. Ritu, a divorced private school teacher and mother of a four-year-old girl, is the daughter of Shiv Prasad from Shivaji Nagar, Kishangarh.
“Ritu pressured Rohit to leave his wife, repeatedly threatening to end their relationship otherwise. The two had been involved in a romantic relationship for the past two years, which had recently come to the attention of both families,” said SP Kumar.
Despite being warned to cut contact, the couple continued to meet in secret. Though Ritu was not physically present during the murder, police say she played a key role in planning the crime.
The Murder
According to police, on August 10, Rohit and his wife Sanju traveled to Ralawat village—her parental home—for Raksha Bandhan. Around 1:30 p.m., they left for Silora village to visit Sanju’s brother.
“About three kilometers before reaching the village, alleged miscreants stopped their motorcycle and attempted to snatch Sanju’s jewelry at knifepoint. Both Rohit and Sanju were reportedly attacked, and Sanju was stabbed in the neck during the robbery,” SP Kumar said.
Sanju was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Initially, Rohit told police that two unidentified men had attacked them. However, during his medical examination, no injury marks were found on his body, raising suspicions. Repeated inconsistencies in his statements eventually led police to uncover the truth.
“Under sustained interrogation, Rohit confessed to staging the robbery and murder, and revealed Ritu’s involvement in planning the crime,” the officer added.
Rohit and Sanju were married in 2018 and have a four-year-old daughter, Heenal.
The investigation is ongoing, and further legal proceedings are expected. (Source: IANS)
