Chennai– The trailer for director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s highly anticipated action film Coolie, starring Superstar Rajinikanth, was officially released on Saturday.
Sun Pictures, the production house behind the film, shared the update on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating: “Deva Countdown Starts! The most anticipated #CoolieTrailer is out now! #Coolie releasing worldwide August 14th.”
The trailer opens with a dramatic voiceover: “As soon as a person is born, their fate is tied to the person in whose hands they will eventually die.” Another voice warns, “If it becomes known that someone can disappear without a trace, it can create chaos.” A third character, seemingly an investigator, notes: “Their rise isn’t just due to the network. Something bigger is going on.”
Soubin Shahir, addressing a group of port workers, declares: “Among the 14,400 people here, I want that one coolie.”
Veteran actor Sathyaraj appears next, delivering his signature mocking laugh and saying: “I’ve kept someone off the grid for thirty years. If he finds out…” He then confronts Rajinikanth’s character: “Who asked you to come here?”
A brief exchange between Shruti Haasan and Rajinikanth adds emotional depth. Shruti says, “You’ve lived alone all your life. He was just your friend. But he’s our father.” Rajinikanth replies, “He may be your father. But he’s my friend.”
From the trailer, it is clear that Rajinikanth plays a long-absent figure who returns to protect Sathyaraj’s character, despite objections from his family. The trailer also teases high-octane action sequences, adding to the film’s growing buzz.
The film has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification with an ‘A’ certificate, confirming its mature content and intense action.
Coolie has already set records in international markets, reportedly becoming the highest overseas acquisition for a Tamil film to date. Industry sources suggest the film may be released in over 100 countries on August 14, marking one of the widest global releases for an Indian film.
In addition to Rajinikanth, the film features an ensemble cast including Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Nagarjuna, Aamir Khan, Upendra, and Soubin Shahir in key roles. (Source: IANS)
