PROVIDENCE, RI- India is celebrating its 75th Independence Day on August 15, 2021. To commemorate this historic day, a gala event has been organized from Aug 14-15 at Rhode Island State House.

The Federation of Indian Association, New England and Indo-American Community with other partner organizations of New England, takes great pride in organizing the two-day celebrations for the Indian community living in US. This is a great opportunity to showcase to the world the community’s achievements and express their devotion to their shared country of origin.

When the sun is completely set and wind is calm, the mega celebrations will begin on Saturday, August 14, with the Indian tricolor lighting of the Rhode Island State House Building ‘Capitol Hill’. Keeping up the tradition of lighting up the dome to mark special events throughout the year, the building will light up around 8:30 p.m. EST until 5:00 a.m. on Aug 15 EST. Keep your eyes to the sky when passing the dome for a beautiful display of color. You can also join us outside the building for a spectacular music performance as the building lights up with the beautiful Indian tricolor.

On Sunday, August 15, the event will officially commence around 8:30 a.m. The Honorable Governor Daniel McKee of Rhode Island will grace the occasion as the chief invitee. The program will open around 9:00 a.m. by first singing the American National Anthem followed by Indian National Anthem. The Honorable Governor will then inaugurate the event by hosting the American and Indian flags, to pay tribute to the two largest democracies of the world, followed by his brief address to the audience. There will be a formal meet and greet of the esteemed invitees and dignitaries.

FIA will also take this opportunity to recognize and award senior citizens and young volunteers, who have made significant contributions through their community service. They will receive an award by His Excellency Daniel McKee.

There will be some time to move between the sessions. Hence, there will be a short snacks and refreshment break. To make the occasion more special, the organizers have handpicked Indian and other local cuisines for a great culinary experience.

The event will resume with a cultural program, keeping up with the tradition of showcasing the art and culture of India. There will be a music concert and other surprise elements to make your experience unique and entertaining.

It has been a tough year post pandemic for the community to celebrate an event of this stature. Hence following all the guidelines of social distancing, FIA has planned to livestream the event via zoom to nearly 2.5 million people in New England.

We believe this is going to be a successful event with a strong support and teamwork consisting of the organizers, sponsors and volunteers.  We look forward to host this grand event for the entire New England community.
