We Care Charity Raises $52,000 at its Annual Event

WORCESTER, MA—We Care Charity, a Nashua, NH-based non-profit organization dedicated to feeding and clothing those in need, this month raised $52,489 at its third annual fundraising event, said Shefali Kalyani, the organization’s founder.

“We raised much more than what we had expected,” Kalyani said. “We are very grateful to both volunteers and donors and sponsors,” Kalyani said. “We collected $10,000 right on the spot.

The fundraiser was held on Oct. 16 at Mechanics Hall in Worceter, MA. About 400 people attended the event which included a singing program from the area’s local singers.

We Care Charity has come a long way since its founding in 2012. It held its first fundraiser in a friend’s basement in 2014 and raised $1,400 and only 40 people attended. The 2015 fundraising collected $8,000 and was attended by about 200 people. In 2016, the organization raised $52,489 and was attended by about 400 people, Kalyani said.

We Care Charity currently serves New England as well as India. In New England, We Care Charity cooks and serves hot and nutritious meals at three soup kitchens and three children’s homes in New Hampshire. In India, We Care Charity sends shipments of gently used clothing to impoverished areas of the country. In addition to clothing, the organization has shipped backpacks, school supplies, toys, and books for children.

Kalyani said that the with the success of current fundraising, her organization is going to double its services both in New England and India.
