Boston Public Market to Welcome Official Pumpkin and Launch Annual Harvest Celebration

BOSTON— A giant pumpkin will make its annual arrival at Boston Public Market next week, marking the beginning of the fall harvest season and kicking off the Market’s annual celebration of local food and agriculture.
The Boston Public Market will welcome Boston’s Official Pumpkin on Tuesday, October 13, at 11 a.m. The public is invited to gather at the Market, located at 100 Hanover Street, to watch the seasonal tradition unfold. Admission to the pumpkin arrival is free.
The giant pumpkin is grown by Art Kazenski and donated by Red Apple Farm, a Boston Public Market vendor based in Phillipston, Massachusetts. Each fall, the farm brings one of Kazenski’s pumpkins to downtown Boston, offering residents and visitors a festive reminder of the region’s agricultural roots.
The arrival of the pumpkin also serves as the unofficial kickoff to the Market’s Annual Harvest Party Fundraiser, scheduled for Thursday, October 22, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Harvest Party to Support Boston Public Market
The Harvest Party is the Boston Public Market Association’s signature annual fundraiser. The nonprofit organization develops and operates the Market and uses proceeds from the event to support programs focused on local food entrepreneurs, food education and access to healthy food.
The event will feature unlimited tastings from Boston Public Market vendors, along with local beer, wine and spirits, live entertainment and a silent auction.
Tickets are available at two price points, $250 and $500, with proceeds supporting the Boston Public Market Association’s work to strengthen New England’s food system.
The organization also welcomes donations of any size from supporters who want to contribute to its programs.
For the Market, the annual pumpkin arrival and Harvest Party offer two ways to celebrate the region’s food community — one as a free public tradition and the other as a fundraising event supporting the nonprofit work behind the downtown marketplace.
The pumpkin ceremony on October 13 is expected to bring visitors together for a distinctly New England fall tradition, as a locally grown harvest centerpiece makes its way from a Massachusetts farm to the heart of Boston.
