Anil dedicates 32nd anniversary of ‘Mr. India’ to Veeru

Mumbai– It was 32 years ago that Anil Kapoor and Sridevi-starrer “Mr. India” hit the screens. Getting nostalgic, its director Shekhar Kapur said on Wednesday that the film refuses to age. Anil, on the other hand, said he wanted to dedicate its 32nd anniversary to the late Bollywood action director Veeru Devgan.

“‘Mr. India’ was made iconic by its children-friendly action scenes and Veeru’s Midas touch. I want to dedicate its 32nd anniversary to the man who made these unforgettable moments possible,” Anil tweeted.

“Veeru Devgan was an amazing man and I’m lucky to have worked with him. He is sorely missed,” he added.

Veeru Devgan, father of actor Ajay Devgn, died here on Monday, family sources said. He was 85.

Shekhar posted a collage of images from the iconic film and captioned it: “What’s with this film! It’s 32 years old today and refuses to age. Mr. India.”

Earlier this month, Anil and Shekhar had met and shared a glimpse of the meeting on Twitter.

Shekhar teased fans as he wrote: “Discussing the look for the next ‘Mr India 2’, or another movie together? You tell them Anil.”

Then Anil wrote: “Feels like deja vu! Shekhar and I are deep in discussion about something new and super exciting! We’re hoping to create the same magic we did before with ‘Mr. India’.”

“Mr. India” is the story of a poor man (Anil) who gives shelter to orphans. After discovering his scientist father’s invisibility device, he fights to save his children and all of India from the clutches of a villain Mogambo — an unforgettable portrayal by late actor Amrish Puri.

The show will be aired on Colors Infinity, read a statement.

During a popular game in the show “Say it or Strip it”, anchor Neha Dhupia asked Katrina, “If Ranbir and Alia, and Arjun and Malaika got married literally same day, same time, which would you attend.”

Katrina said, “If I’d have to pick one, I’d pick Arjun because he is my rakhi brother. I tied him a rakhi on the day ‘Sheila ki Jawaani’ was released and he didn’t really like me. ‘Arjun, do you want to be my rakhi brother?’ He was like ‘No!’ (and) I was like Arjun you’re going to be my rakhi brother.”

On the Bollywood front, Katrina awaits the release of her next Salman Khan-starrer “Bharat”.

Bina Kak on Wednesday posted a few throwback images of her “choti’s wedding” on Instagram.

Going by the images, about nine years ago, Salman attended the wedding where he wore a white ganji with a pair of jeans, chic sunglasses and a cap. Later for the wedding ceremony, he changed to a shirt with rolled up sleeves and trousers.

Bina Kak has acted in many Salman-starrer Bollywood movies like “Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?” and “God Tussi Great Ho”.

It’s easy to type and judge: Arjun responds to troll

Mumbai– When a social media user accused actor Arjun Kapoor of having a “double standard” when it comes to relationships, he simply replied saying it is “easy to type and judge”.

Arjun Kapoor

A Twitter user who goes by the Twitter handle @kusumbhutani wrote: “You hate your father’s second wife because your father left your mother, and now you are dating a woman who is 11 years elder to you and has a teenage son. Why double standards Arjun Kapoor?”

Arjun, who has not hidden his relationship with Malaika Arora in recent times, replied: “I don’t hate anyone Kusum. We kept a dignified distance. If I did, I wouldn’t have been there for my dad, Janhvi and Khushi at a sensitive time… It’s easy to type and judge, think a little. You are Varun Dhawan’s fan, so I feel I should tell you, don’t spread negativity with his face on your display picture.”

The user then apologised to Arjun, Arjun’s fans and Varun.

Fans still want me to play goddess: Debina

Mumbai– Actress Debina Bonnerjee played Sita in the mythological show “Ramayan” about a decade ago. She says her fans still remember her for that role and want to see her as a goddess on screen again.

“Fans still want me to play the role of a goddess… and they don’t want us (she and her actor-husband Gurmeet) to play anything bold or grey. But I’m exploring my range as an actor. Web series have people playing grey which is normal and accepted by the viewers but for TV viewers there is a mental block,” Debina said in a statement.

She will be soon seen in “Vish: A Poisonous Story”.

“I have been part of many TV shows exploring different genres each time. But in the upcoming show ‘Vish…’, I have a very strong title role. It is a revenge drama of a ‘vishkanya’,” said the “Santoshi Maa” actress.

“That might look like an antagonist but has a lot of scope for me to act. I enjoy acting and given a chance, I will do a role that is more performance-oriented rather than being just good on screen every time,” Debina said.

Don’t think Ananya will go to varsity now: Chunky

New Delhi– “Ananya is a great student, but right now her focus is on films,” says actor Chunky Panday of his daughter Ananya Panday, who has just made her Bollywood debut with the film “Student of the Year 2”.

Apart from her acting stint, Ananya recently got talked about when some girls who claimed to be Ananya’s schoolmates, shared on social media that the actress lied about her admission to international universities, stating she never applied for them.

The comments came earlier this month via an Instagram account after Ananya reportedly spoke about in an interview how she gave up admission abroad for “Student Of The Year 2”.

“I was all set to go to college. I was going to USC (University of Southern California) to study, but wanted to give it one shot before I left. So I went and auditioned for the film. And luckily, I got it. This a dream come true,” Ananya was quoted as saying.

Chunky told IANS he wasn’t aware about the social media buzz around his daughter’s education.

“Yes, she got into two universities, but did not go because she got the film… I don’t think she will be going to the university now. She will be working in Bollywood now,” he said.

Chunky also praised his daughter’s first on-screen performance. “I am so proud of her. She performed well. I was scared if she would be able to perform well or not… But she did a good job. I am happy about her achievement. She is an intelligent person. She has a long journey ahead,” he remarked.

On the work front, Chunky is gearing up for the release of his short film “Tap Tap”, one of the films from anthology “Shuruaat Ka Twist”.

Anu Malik back as judge of ‘Indian Idol’ after #MeToo?

New Delhi– When the #MeToo movement picked up in India, singer-composer Anu Malik was removed from the jury panel of “Indian Idol” last year as he was accused of sexual misconduct. Now, there is a buzz about his return to the singing-based reality show as a judge.

Asked if the makers of the show had approached him to join back as a judge, Anu told IANS over phone: “Right now, I am at a recording. All I can say at this point of time…no comments.”

According to a source, the auditions will begin soon. There is no confirmation whether the makers will bring back Anu on the show or not, but Vishal Dadlani and Neha Kakkar are expected to return and perform their judging duties in the upcoming season of “Indian Idol”.

In October 2018, Anu had been accused by singers Sona Mohapatra and Shweta Pandit, who called him a “paedophile” and a “sexual predator”.

He had denied the allegations that he sexually harassed Shweta.

“The allegations made against my client are emphatically denied as completely false and baseless. My client respects the #MeToo movement, but to use this movement to start a character assassination mission is obnoxious,” his lawyer Zulfiquar Memon had told IANS. (IANS)
