Ajay Devgn Channels ‘Singham’ Amid Hindi-Marathi Language Row

MUMBAI– Ajay Devgn stepped into his ‘Singham’ persona when asked about the ongoing Hindi-Marathi language controversy, delivering his iconic line, “Aata Majhi Satakli,” at the Son of Sardaar 2 trailer launch.

The language debate was sparked in April after the Maharashtra government mandated Hindi as a third language in all state-run primary schools, alongside Marathi and English. The move aligns with India’s national three-language policy but has ignited political and cultural tensions.

The issue escalated after viral incidents showed Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers allegedly targeting non-Marathi speakers. In response, several public figures have spoken out in favor of linguistic harmony.

Singer Udit Narayan emphasized the importance of respecting all languages, saying, “Maharashtra is my karma bhoomi, and its language matters. But all languages in India deserve equal respect.”

Veteran singer Anoop Jalota echoed that sentiment: “Hindi is our mother tongue, but knowing other languages only enriches us. Respect and learn them all.”

CID actor Hrishikesh Pandey added that while honoring regional languages is vital, it’s not always feasible for everyone to quickly learn new ones. “This is India. People move across states for work. It takes time to learn a new language,” he said.

Meanwhile, political leaders like Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray have voiced opposition to making Hindi compulsory in Marathi-medium schools.
