Baking pizzas taught Shah Rukh perseverance when his films tanked at the box office
Mumbai– Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan, who set the box-office on fire in 2023 with his three releases — ‘Pathaan’, ‘Jawan’ and ‘Dunki’, has reflected on a time when his films were not connecting with the larger audience.
The actor did ‘Zero’, in which he played a dwarf, in 2018. The film directed by Aanand L. Rai tanked at the box-office after which Shah RUkh took a break for four years before he changed the trajectory of Bollywood with ‘Pathaan’.
The actor recently attended the World Government Summit in Dubai, where he spoke about the time when his films weren’t working. The actor shared that he shifted his focus from movies to culinary art for a brief period to make a strong return.
“I had massive flops, wehich they did very, very badly. I was licking my wounds. But you know what I did? I learnt to make the best pizza in the world. I stopped listening to stories, I stopped wanting to tell stories.
“I made myself a little kitchen, and I started learning how to make pizzas. I learnt perseverance. Because to make the perfect round pizza, you have to first make a million square ones.”
Asked if his family encouraged him to return to work, and if making a comeback was difficult, Shah Rukh said, “I was glad that my family didn’t tell me, ‘Listen, your pizzas are better than your films, stop making films’. I’m glad that they turned around and said, ‘As good as your pizzas are, your films are better’. They were very encouraging, especially my children and my team.
“I’d become indulgent. I’d started becoming too innovative. I was looking for perfection, and I started failing. I needed to be excellent, I needed to be unique, but I needed to look at what the audience wanted.”
Hrithik Roshan pulls muscle, shares picture with crutches, waist brace
Mumbai– Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan, who was recently seen in the action film ‘Fighter’, shared a picture of himself on his social media in which he can be seen standing with the crutches and with a brace.
On Wednesday, the actor took to his Instagram and shared a mirror selfie and penned a long note along with the picture.
The actor recollected the incident when his grand-father was injured and he refused to sit on a wheelchair.
He wrote in the caption: “Good afternoon. How many of you out there ever needed to be on crutches or a wheelchair and how did that make you feel? I remember my grandfather refusing to sit on a wheelchair at the airport because it wouldn’t align with his own mental image of himself as ‘strong’. I remember saying ‘But Deda, it’s just an injury and nothing to do with how old you are!’ It will help heal the injury and not damage it further. It made me so sad to see how strong he needed to be just to hide the fear and embarrassment on the inside.”
The actor shared that he couldn’t make sense of what his grand-father said back then, and that it made him feel helpless.
He continued: “I argued that the age factor is not applicable because he needs the wheelchair for an injury and not his old age. He refused and kept the strong image on display for strangers (who literally didn’t care). It worsened his pain and delayed the healing. There definitely is merit in that kind of conditioning, it’s a virtue. It’s the mentality of a soldier. My dad comes from the same conditioning. MEN are strong.”
He further mentioned: “But if you say soldiers never need crutches And even when they medically do, they must refuse, just for the sake of keeping the illusion of strength intact, Then I just think that the virtue has been stretched so far that it borders on plain stupidity. I believe true strength is being relaxed , composed and fully aware that nothing, not crutches, not a wheelchair, not any inability or vulnerability – and certainly not any sitting position can lessen or alter the image of that GIANT that you are on the inside. Strength is not always being Rambo against all odds with a machine gun saying “f*** em!” That’s applicable for sure. Sometimes.”
“And it’s the kind we all aspire for. Even me. But the more coveted one is strength when there is no one to fight on the outside. It’s that quiet fight on the inside between you and the “image” of you. If you come out of that one feeling like wanting to do a slow dance by yourself , then you’re my hero. Anyways, I pulled a muscle yesterday and woke up wanting to reach out about this notion of strength. This is ofcourse a bigger conversation , the crutches are just a metaphor. If you get it, you get it,” he added.

With Rakul scheduled to work almost up to three days before the wedding festivities begin, and Jackky deeply involved in pre-production for his upcoming movie ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’, the couple’s focus remains on their respective projects.
Rakul plans to resume work within a week of the wedding ceremonies, while Jackky continues to dedicate his time to his film.
The couple will be having an eco-friendly wedding in the picturesque locale of Goa. The three-day affair, starting on February 19 and culminating in their marriage on February 21, stands out for its green initiatives.
Sources reveal that the couple has skipped on paper invites in favour of digital-only announcements to guests. In keeping with their eco-friendly theme, the wedding will feature no firework displays.
Taking their commitment a step further, Rakul and Jackky are working with experts to assess and offset their wedding’s carbon footprint.
These specialists will calculate the environmental impact of their festivities and advise on the quantity of trees to be planted to balance it out. Following this advice, the couple plans to plant these trees, symbolising their dedication to the environment either immediately after their wedding or the next day. (IANS)
