Shantanu Maheshwari found smoking cigarettes tough

Mumbai– Actor Shantanu Maheshwari, who had to smoke cigarettes for a few scenes of his new show, found smoking quite tough.

He will be soon seen in the digital show “Medically Yours”, which will shed light on the lives of medical students and the hardships they have to face. It will showcase Shantanu as Abir Basu, who has a complicated personality with an angry side to him. He will be shown smoking in the show too.

“I had to smoke cigarettes for quite a few scenes in the show. While preparing for the character, initially smoking was quite tough for me as it was the first time that I was putting a cigarette in my mouth,” Shantanu said in a statement.

“It was important for me to live up to my character’s essence, so I pushed myself to do the best I could. It increased the throat infection that I had caught onto and made it even more worse than it was over those couple of weeks. There isn’t even one scene where I haven’t coughed while smoking. But I decided that I had to complete them all in sync, to feel what my character was feeling.”

While shooting those scenes, the one thing he realised was that for “youngsters especially, it is very easy to get addicted to smoking as there is immense peer pressure these days to look cool and do things that others are doing”.

“Also, in our field there is always an endless wait between our shots. Somehow the easiest way to kill time and de-stress is to have that cigarette in your hand. But when I took those first few puffs, it just didn’t feel healthy and it made me feel quite dehydrated,” he said.

Episodic shows more convenient: Sana Amin Sheikh

Mumbai– Actress Sana Amin Sheikh says episodic shows are more convenient to take on.

&TV’s show “Laal Ishq” has several episodes with different pairing of popular celebrities from telly town. The upcoming episode is set to witness Sana making a comeback to the show.

On what made her take up another episode in “Laal Ishq”, the actress said in a statement, “I personally believe episodic shows are more convenient to take on. Working on this format of TV shows has become easier and less time consuming as they require only a couple of days of commitment from the artistes.”

“Also, being a part of episodic shows gives an actor a chance to don different looks and characters on screen and showcase themselves differently in front of the audience. Apart from that, as an actor I can simultaneously work on other projects as well, which works brilliantly,” said the “Perfect Pati” actress.

She will portray the role of Shalini who is set to submit her final fashion designing project in her high school. The episode will showcase Shalini’s struggle of escape from a possessed mannequin that she chooses to use for her project. The soul that is trapped in the mannequin falls in love with the timid and sweet soul of Shalini.

“‘Manmarziyaan’ has been one of the most liberating experiences for me as an actor. I believe the character Vicky Sandhu to be my alter ego and to completely surrender to that character and to the world of Anurag Kashyap (filmmaker) was one of the most learning experiences for me,” Vicky said in a statement.

“It was the first time I was collaborating with Tapsee (Pannu) and Abhishek (Bachchan) and had a blast shooting with them,” he added.

Kashyap has helmed “Manmarziyaan”, which will air on &pictures on May 26.

On her role of Rumi, Taapsee said: “I’m a black or white person in real life, but this character is confused and indecisive. So, I couldn’t relate to her. Then she (casting person) said something which was the reason I took up the film. She told me, ‘Had it not been for that patch, it would have been a cakewalk for you’. That became the selling point for me.”

Abhishek feels “every actor brings a lot of himself or herself to a character and also takes a lot back”.

“There are several shades of me in Robbie,” he added.

Deepika Singh on husband taking break for her, child

Mumbai– Actress Deepika Singh of “Diya Aur Baati Hum” fame is back in the telly world where actors generally shoot for long hours. She says motherhood shouldn’t make women leave their passion, and that she feels fortunate to have a husband who has taken a break from work so that she can do a full-fledged role in a TV show.

Deepika Singh

“I feel fortunate to have such a loving husband. I didn’t tell Rohit Goyal (a director) to stop working. We have a joint family, but the love that parents give to their kids, can’t be replaced. Rohit felt that I wouldn’t be able to give a lot of time to our son Soham. He decided to take a break so that Soham doesn’t feel neglected,” Deepika told IANS here.

Even though she stayed away from playing lead characters after delivering her first child two years ago, she never really lost touch with showbiz. She made appearances on a few TV shows and also did a web series this year.

“I am a person who loves acting. I don’t think you need to leave your work, hobbies for motherhood. I don’t want him (son) to feel guilty 10 or 15 years later… that if I can perform well on screen, then why did I give up my career for him,” she said.

“I wanted to have a baby. Now I want to work and perform on screen. That’s my passion. I don’t think you should leave your passion because of motherhood,” added the actress, who feels that she has become more responsible, patient, caring and happier now. (IANS)
