Alia welcomes 2019 with Ranbir Kapoor’s family

New York– “Raazi” actress Alia Bhatt celebrated New Year’s Eve with beau Ranbir Kapoor and his family here.

Veteran actress Neetu Kapoor on Tuesday took to social media and shared a perfect family dinner photograph which saw Alia having quality time with Ranbir and his father Rishi Kapoor, also an actor.

Alia, Ranbir, Rishi and Neetu were also joined by Riddhima Kapoor, her husband Bharat Sahni and daughter Samara for the celebration.

As Rishi is currently undergoing a medical treatment here, wife Neetu wished for “good health” and hopes “Cancer to be only zodiac sign”.

“Happy 2019, no resolutions, only wishes this year! Less pollution traffic! Hope in future, cancer is only a zodiac sign. No hatred, less poverty, loads of love togetherness happiness and most important good health,” Neetu captioned the photograph.

The “Chandni” actor also wished his fans a very “happy new year” on Twitter.

Riddhima, sister of Ranbir, also shared photographs and videos from the celebration on Instagram in which Ranbir and Alia can be seen having fun time with each other.

On the work front, both the actors will be seen sharing screen space in Ayan Mukerji’s upcoming film “Brahmastra”.

Have learnt so much from Rohit Shetty: Karan Johar

Mumbai– Filmmaker Karan Johar, who worked with Rohit Shetty on “Simmba”, says working with the director has been one of his best experiences.

Featuring actors Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan in lead roles, “Simmba”, which released last month, has garnered immense appreciation from the audience.

Thanking Rohit for “making a mainstream film that is loved across the audience”, Karan took to Instagram on Tuesday and wrote: “Working with Rohit Shetty has been one of the best experiences of my life! Have learnt so much from his process and his precision!”

“Making a mainstream film that is loved across the audience base is no mean task and he has mastered the art of doing just that. He loves his audiences tremendously and only makes movies for them. Thank you my dearest Rohit for everything! You have a large heart and a solid one too.”

Karan also praised Ranveer for nailing the role.

“Ranveer is and will always be Simmba for life! You two were meant to be brothers in biceps. Love you. Thank you. What a great end of the year to have,” he added.

Films that made Anurag Kashyap jealous

Mumbai– Among the slew of best and worst film lists of 2018, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has come up with his own listing of movies which left him feeling jealous.

“My list is a jealous filmmaker list and it’s because there is something in them, or them as a whole that makes me rethink, gives me courage, has overwhelmed me and made me ask myself, ‘why didn’t I see it that way’,” Kashyap tweeted.

His list — in no specific order — included films like “Mulk”, “Badhaai Ho”, “Manto”, “AndhaDhun”, “Tumbbad”, “Mard ko Dard Nahin Hota”, “Soni”, “Omerta” and “October”.

Bollywood debut is unexpected happening in my life: Anju Jhadav

TV actress Anju Jhadav, who is making her Bollywood debut with the film “Dosti Ke Side Effects”, says it is an unexpected happening in her life.

“It is like unexpected happening in life and I am extremely happy. Hard work definitely pays off and it’s very hard to express my feelings in words right now,” Anju said in a statement.

“I thank everyone who motivated me and also to the ones who tried bringing me down… it’s my determination that paid off.”

She will play the lead role in the film, which also stars dancer and former “Bigg Boss” contestant Sapna Choudhary.

Anju, who comes from an army background, said her father never wanted her to enter showbiz. But after seeing her achievement, he is “super proud”.

“My father never wanted me to get in this field, but I tried my luck and then my mother convinced my father to allow me to come to Mumbai from Madhya Pradesh, but today after looking at all my hard work and efforts, my dad is super proud and happy that I did what I always wanted to do,” she added.

“Dosti Ke Side Effects” will release on February 8.

Hansal Mehta wants ‘Omerta’ to stream online

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta is waiting for his directorial “Omerta” to make its way on a streaming platform.

“Everyday I’m asked when ‘Omerta’ will be available on a streaming platform. Unfortunately, I have no answer to the question.

“Maybe an interested digital platform gets in touch with the producer or vice versa. Either way I also would love to see the film streaming soon,” Mehta tweeted on Wednesday.

“Omerta” is a biographical crime drama film around the story of Omar Saeed Sheikh and many young people like him who get brainwashed and become a part of terrorist activities. The film features actor Rajkummar Rao in the lead role.

Aruna Irani set to play grandmother

Mumbai– Veteran actress Aruna Irani, known for her work in films like “Bobby” and “Beta”, as well as TV shows such as “Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand”, will play a grandmother in the upcoming show “Dil Toh Happy Hai Ji”.

Going by its first promo, the show will focus on a young woman, Happy (actress Jasmin Bhasin), who sees the happier side of every situation. Aruna will join the show as a ‘dadiji’.

“I said yes to do this role because there are various shades to her character and I personally love the story of the show,” Aruna said in a statement.

“Working with Gul Khan (producer) is also like homecoming for me because I have known her for over a decade. Everyone takes care of me on the set and I love spending time with them,” she added.

“Dil Toh Happy Hai Ji” will premiere on January 15 on StarPlus.

Actor Prakash Raj to join politics

Mumbai– Actor Prakash Raj, who has been critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government, announced on Tuesday that he will contest the Lok Sabha election as an independent candidate.

“Happy New Year to everyone. A new beginning… more responsibilities… With your support, I will be contesting in the coming Parliament elections as an independent candidate. Details of the constituency soon. Ab ki baar Janata ki sarkar,” Prakash tweeted.

The multiple National award-winning actor has often used social media and public platforms to criticise Modi and the BJP, especially on issues like intolerance and vigilante attacks. He has not indicated from where he will contest.

In November, he had posted a tweet referring to Modi: “Dear Supreme Leader… before giving gyan on foul language to other parties… will you and your party begin Swachh Bharat first from your own motor mouths?”

Prakash is a known name in the southern film industry. He has featured in movies like “Iruvar”, “Anthapuram” and “Kanchivaram”. He has also made his presence felt in Bollywood with movies like “Singham” and “Wanted”. (IANS)
