Rs.55 lakh hair colour? It’s baseless, says Katrina Kaif

New Delhi–Actress Katrina Kaif has brushed aside reports that it cost Rs.55 lakh to colour her hair red for filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor’s “Fitoor”, saying that “it’s not even possible”. “I don’t even think that’s possible, even if you want to… It is all a kind of slightly sensationalised piece of news that comes out and gets highlighted, which more often than not turns out to be baseless,” Katrina told IANS in a telephonic interview from Mumbai.

Regarding her hair colour and style in the film, Katrina said that it was the director’s idea “with a symbolic connection”. “This was an idea which Abhishek had. The thought behind it was when the leaves fall in Kashmir and the whole ground turns red… It was a symbolic connection as the colour red signifies passion, love and fire,” the “Phantom” actress said. “We took a lot of pictures and a lot of discussion and once we had locked in on the hair colour, and then just took one day to do it and shot the whole film in three to four months. Then I dyed the colour back, and it was black again,” added the actress, who recently launched L’Oreal Paris’s new La Vie En Rose signature collection.

Katrina has even issued a statement denying the rumours around her multi-million hair colour, which according to the gossip mills could have been used to fund education for several students. “The wonderful thing about being an actor is that people are interested in what you do. But there are also lots of misleading and untrue articles that also come out. And because I am not on any social media platform yet, I don’t have the chance to contradict every rumour. Even the film’s director has clarified that there’s no truth to the Rs.55 lakh story. “I can’t help but smile when I read these speculative reports of money spent on Katrina’s hair. They are outrageous. But what’s important is Katrina and Tabu (who also sports red hair) both look amazing and in my humble opinion, their hair even more so. So let’s just compliment the ladies,” Kapoor said in a statement. “Fitoor” is an adaptation of Charles Dickens classic novel “Great Expectations” and will have Katrina playing Firdaus, while Aditya Roy Kapur will portray the character of Noor. The film also stars Aditi Rao Hydari, Lara Dutta and Rahul Bhatt. “Fitoor” will hit the theatres on February 12.

Kunal Kapoor in non-stop work mode for ‘Veeram’

Lethargy is evading Kunal Kapoor despite the fact that he’s working for 24 hours straight. The “Rang De Basanti” fame star says he shot for an entire day for “Veeram”, and can go on for another 24-hour shift for the upcoming southern film without any complaints.

“Shot 24 hours straight for ‘Veeram’. Ready to shoot another 24 hours. Time becomes so irrelevant when you are enjoying what you do na,” Kunal tweeted. The action film is said to be a trilingual adaptation of “Macbeth”.

‘Neerja’ made in Rs.21 crore budget

In the age of big budget films, “Neerja”, a biopic starrer has been made in Rs.21 crore, including marketing costs. The producer of the forthcoming film is glad that things “turned out pretty well” without compromising on the quality of the content.

The Ram Madhvani-directorial features Sonam as Neerja Bhanot, a Pan Am chief purser who was gunned down by terrorists when Flight 73 was hijacked to Karachi in 1986. She saved a number of lives but lost her own.

“At a cost of Rs.21 crore, inclusive of marketing and distribution, we have been able to make ‘Neerja’ as we wanted to, without compromising on the treatment of the film and covering all the facts and minute details of the historic event. “It is good to know that things have turned out pretty well for us till now and all the content put out by us has been well received,” Atul Kasbekar, who has produced the film under his banner Bling Unplugged, said in a statement. “Neerja”, presented by Fox Star Studios, is all set to release on February 19.

Kangana says ‘Rangoon’ character fiery, great dancer

Mumbai–Actress Kangana Ranaut says that Julia, the character she plays in “Rangoon”, is extremely fierce and fiery while also being a great dancer and a great action star. “In ‘Rangoon’, I play an action star of the 1940s. And Julia is a woman who is very fierce, very fiery, she’s a great dancer and a great action star,” said Kangana present at the unveiling of the Sephora store on Saturday.

A picture of Kangana with a whip in her hand from the sets was captured recently, which had people think that she would indulge in some action for the film. She was also snapped while she was learning horse-riding for the film and had confessed that the preparations for the film had left her physically exhausted.

Kangana, who is famous for her curly hair right since her debut “Gangster”, is currently sporting straight and short hair. She confirmed that it was her look for the film and not her own style. “For the film, I have this look.. it’s not styled like that. It’s more vintagy, more wavy which you’ll get to see in the film,” she said. The Vishal Bhardwaj-directed ‘Rangoon’ also stars Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor. Shahid plays a soldier in the film while Saif enacts the role of a filmmaker. Reportedly, the film is along the lines of the Hollywood classic “Casablanca” and is set during the World War II period.
