Malayalam superstar Dileep sent to 14 days’ custody

Aluva, Kerala–Malayalam superstar Dileep, who was arrested in connection with the abduction and molestation of a popular actress in February, was remanded in custody on Tuesday for 14 days and was removed as member from various film associations.

On Monday, he was questioned at an undisclosed location near here, and later the police probe team recorded the arrest of the actor. He was brought to the Aluva Police Club.

“I am innocent and I will prove my innocence. I was trapped,” the actor said on Tuesday before being taken to the Aluva sub-jail.

Coincidentally, Dileep’s last film in 2016 was “Welcome to Central Jail” and people who gathered in front of the jail were heard shouting slogans, “Welcome to Central Jail”.

Meanwhile, executives of Association of Malayalam Movies Artistes (AMMA) — which had come under heavy attack from several quarters over its stand on the issue — removed Dileep as treasurer and member. The Producers Association also met and decided to remove Dileep from their body and Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA), also decided to remove him from the rolls. Meanwhile, a new body of theatre owners which was recently floated by Dileep is also mulling its future course of action.

Patriarchy is hard on women and men: Ratna Pathak Shah

New Delhi–Veteran actress Ratna Pathak Shah, who will soon be seen in the film “Lipstick Under My Burkha”, says the patriarchal structure anywhere in the world is hard not just on women but on men too.

“How many men have a choice? How many men are doing a job that they did not want to do, doing things and behaving in ways that they did not want to,” Ratna, who will be essaying the role of a 55-year-old widow in the film, told media persons here on Tuesday.

“Patriarchy is hard on men as well as women. So we need to get rid of the root cause of it. Get rid of this idea of patriarchy and find new ways of looking at society,” said the acclaimed actress, who is married to veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah.

She questioned: “A number of times women ask for permission from the men in their lives to do something or other. Aren’t we asking for such a behaviour then?

“Lipstick Under My Burkha”, releasing on July 21, was in the news after the censor board deemed it too “lady oriented” to release. But it got a green signal after fighting the way through the censor authorities.

Why Ranbir finds it ‘challenging’ to work with Anurag Basu

Mumbai–Actor Ranbir Kapoor, who has collaborated with Anurag Basu for the second time for “Jagga Jasoos” after “Barfi!”, says the challenging part about working with the filmmaker is the patience and the time it takes.

“Working with Anurag Basu, the challenging part is not acting, the challenging part is the patience and the time that it takes. Also, you have to understand that he is such a visual director so that he builds your performance visually, through his shots over a period of time,” Ranbir said in a statement.

“Jagga Jasoos” features Ranbir and actress Katrina Kaif as Jagga and Shruti, who are on an adventure hunt for Jagga’s father. The film showcases Ranbir as a school boy who is estranged from his father.

Disney and Pictureshuru Production’s “Jagga Jasoos” directed by Anurag Basu is set to release on July 14, 2017. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif in the lead with music composed by Pritam.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Was quite nervous to do intimate scenes: Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Mumbai–Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who has shot for lovemaking scenes for the first time in his upcoming film “Babumoshai Bandookbaaz”, says he was very conscious and nervous during the filming.

The National Award-winning actor was present on Tuesday at the trailer launch of the film with the cast and director of the movie.

Asked about his experience of doing intimate scenes onscreen, Nawazuddin told the media here: “Yes, I have done intimate scenes for the first time, so I was quite nervous to do such scenes. You feel good and nervous at the same time… It’s not that fun when you are doing a scene… You focus on the scene and not on other things.”

Known for his realistic acting for which he has been lauded film after film, Nawazuddin also said he prefers playing characters with grey shades.

“I do not like a character that is either an extreme villain or a hero. But I think that as time goes by, things are changing. These days, even heroes are playing characters with grey shades because I believe grey characters are more real. There are bad and good characteristics in all of us,” said the actor, who is very conscious abut his choice of role.

Directed by Kushan Nandy, “Babumoshai Bandookbaaz” — slated to release on August 25 — is a rustic drama. It also features Bidita Bag, Jatin Goswami and Divya Dutta.
