Patna– Patna police have detained four minor boys following a complaint by the parents of a teenage girl who alleged she was gang-raped by the group earlier this week.

Given the sensitivity of the case, the investigation is being carried out under the supervision of senior police officials in coordination with the Juvenile Justice Board.

The complaint was filed late Tuesday night at the Kotwali police station. Police promptly registered a First Information Report (FIR), and the girl was taken for a medical examination, said Krishna Murari Prasad, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Law and Order), Patna.

“As the matter is extremely sensitive, we acted immediately. Based on the girl’s statement, all four accused—who are minors—were taken into custody and presented before the Juvenile Justice Board on Wednesday,” Prasad said.

According to the preliminary investigation, the girl had connected with one of the accused about a month ago through Instagram. She was later introduced to three of his friends, who are now co-accused in the case.

Police said the girl met the boys at a hotel a few days ago and returned there on Tuesday, when the alleged assault occurred. After returning home that evening, she informed her parents, who then reported the incident to police.

The detained boys are students in Grades 8 and 10, and police have confirmed that they are being treated in accordance with juvenile justice laws.

A woman police officer, Shobha Kumari, and Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajeev Ranjan accompanied the girl to record her statement before the Juvenile Justice Board.

The FIR includes charges under the applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, based on the girl’s statement and medical findings.

“All aspects of the case—including the nature of the relationships and the events that took place at the hotel—are being thoroughly investigated,” added Prasad.

Authorities have pledged that the investigation will be handled with the utmost sensitivity and fairness, and that legal proceedings will follow the established juvenile justice protocols. (Source: IANS)
