Akshay Kumar Pays Tribute to Chuck Norris, Calls Watching Him ‘Education’

MUMBAI — Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar paid tribute to martial arts legend and action star Chuck Norris, who has died at the age of 86, recalling how watching his films was a formative experience.

Kumar said that seeing Norris on screen in films such as “Way of the Dragon” and “Missing in Action” was more than just entertainment during his early years as a martial artist.

“Growing up as a martial artist, watching Chuck Norris in Way of the Dragon, Missing in Action and many more wasn’t just entertainment… it was education. The discipline, strength, and effortless command he brought on screen stayed with me. Grateful for the inspiration that shaped a part of me,” Kumar wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Norris made his film debut in 1968 with “The Wrecking Crew,” appearing as an uncredited bodyguard. He later gained global recognition through his association with Bruce Lee, including their iconic fight scene in the 1972 film “Return of the Dragon.”

Over his career, Norris appeared in more than 20 films, including the “Missing in Action” series and “The Delta Force,” establishing himself as a leading action star.

He is also widely remembered for his role in the long-running television series “Walker, Texas Ranger,” where he portrayed a crime-fighting lawman. The show ran for nine seasons.

Before transitioning to acting, Norris built a distinguished career in martial arts, becoming a six-time undefeated World Professional Middleweight Karate champion.

He is survived by five children, including stunt performers Mike and Eric from his first marriage to Dianne, as well as twins Dakota and Danilee with his second wife, Gena. (Source: IANS)
