NEW DELHI — An Air India flight traveling from San Francisco to Delhi made a precautionary landing in Mongolia after the flight crew detected a possible technical issue, the airline said Monday.
The incident involved flight AI174, operating on November 2 on the San Francisco–Delhi route with a scheduled stop in Kolkata. According to the airline, the crew diverted the aircraft to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, after suspecting a technical irregularity during the journey.
“The aircraft landed safely at Ulaanbaatar and is undergoing the necessary checks. We are working closely with our partners to support all passengers while we make efforts to get everyone on their way to the destination at the earliest opportunity,” an Air India spokesperson said.
The airline added that it “regrets the inconvenience caused to passengers due to the unforeseen situation,” emphasizing that the safety of passengers and crew is always the top priority.
This development comes as Air India recently received temporary approval to extend flight duty time limits for two-pilot Boeing 787 Dreamliner operations on certain European routes, following disruptions caused by the closure of Pakistani airspace.
Under the temporary extension issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Flight Duty Time Limitation has been increased from 10 hours to 10 hours and 30 minutes, and the Flight Duty Period from 13 hours to 14 hours. The DGCA specified that the extension applies only when duty periods are extended after departure and not during pre-flight planning. (Source: IANS)
