BOSTON—On Saturday, April 6th, 2024, Boston will host the annual South Asian Showdown in which seven teams from across the United States will participate.

Below is a listing of the competing teams that will be performing:

DFD Academy is a dance school from Boston, MA. Founded in 2013, their mission has always been to educate and inspire the next generation of Bollywood Fusion dancers to perform with the same confidence, passion, and collaboration experienced in the collegiate circuit. DFD has been competing nationally within the Desi Dance Circuit since 2019 achieving First Place at Derby City Dhoom 2020 and South Asian Showdown 2023.

Georgetown Guzaarish is an award-winning competitive Bollywood fusion dance team started by four friends in 2019. The dance styles range from bhangra, raas, kuthu, hip hop, classical, and Bollywood.

Guzaarish continues to grow both as dancers and as a community at Georgetown University. They were also previously invited to perform at Kamala Harris’s house for a Diwali party.

Desi Dhamaka is an independent Bollywood-fusion team from Tampa, FL. The team was founded in 2012. With a fusion of traditional and contemporary dance styles, the team brings the magic of Bollywood-fusion to life on stage. Comprising talented choreographers and passionate dancers, Desi Dhamaka’s performances are a visual feast, blending intricate footwork, expressive storytelling, and dazzling costumes. Their dynamic routines capture the spirit of celebration, spreading joy and infectious enthusiasm wherever they perform. Desi Dhamaka isn’t just a dance team; it’s a vivacious celebration of Indian dance and culture.

Philly Maza is Philadelphia’s premier Co-Ed Bollywood Fusion Dance team. We integrate South Asian dance styles such as Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Bhangra, and Bollywood with hip-hop and contemporary dance. The team prides itself on dancing, competing and most importantly having fun. They compete nationally at all different cities and are constantly look for new talent who want to continue their passion for dance CMU Jiya is Carnegie Mellon’s premier award-winning all-girls competitive Bollywood fusion team, combining a variety of different dance styles from western styles like hip-hop and contemporary, to Indian classical and fold dances. Our dancers aim to exhibit our passion for dance and showcase their love for Indian culture.

Boston University Jalwa, hailing from the city of champions, is New England’s premier bollywood fusion dance team and encompasses various dance styles such as Bollywood, Bhangra, classical, and hip-hop. Having been an established team in the fusion circuit since 2004, Jalwa strives to live up to its legacy by displaying the creativity, energy, and passion of Boston’s Desi-American community for the world to see.

Broad Street Baadshahz is an all-male premier Bollywood dance team entering their 16th year. Bsb preforms various styles such as bhangra, hip hop, contemporary, tolly, bolly, and many more. BSB has been a top tier team for years, winning numerous competitions as well as earning a spot at Legends. BSB is also the most popular team coming from the city of brotherly love. We strive to entertain our audience each and every time we perform through our power, passion, and dedication to dance.
