CHENNAI– Academy Award-winning composer A.R. Rahman paid a special visit to legendary singer K.J. Yesudas at his home in Dallas, expressing admiration for the iconic vocalist’s deep commitment to Indian classical music and his ongoing research in the field.
Sharing a photo of their meeting on Instagram, Rahman wrote, “Met my childhood favorite at his place at #Dallas #Yesudas … amazed at his research work and love for Indian classical (Carnatic) music!!”
Rahman was joined by several fellow artists during the visit, which took place amid his ongoing Wonderment Tour—his largest-ever North American concert series. The tour spans over 15 cities, beginning in Vancouver on July 18 and concluding in Boston on August 18.
Singer Shweta Prasad, part of Rahman’s tour ensemble, also shared a photo from the visit and captioned it, “A blessed and cherishable morning in Dallas. #shwetamohandiaries #TheWondermentTour.”
Fellow singer Rakshita Suresh echoed the sentiment, writing on Instagram, “What a blessed morning! Met the living legend Yesudas sir at his house along with @arrahman sir, and sang a few lines. Still shaking.”
K.J. Yesudas, affectionately known as Gaanagandharvan (The Celestial Singer), has recorded over 50,000 songs across multiple Indian languages including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Bengali, Odia, and Tulu.
