MUMBAI— Actress Janhvi Kapoor brought back memories of her late mother Sridevi’s iconic 1986 fantasy film ‘Nagina’ this Halloween by recreating one of its memorable looks, drawing an emotional response from her sister Khushi Kapoor.
Janhvi shared photographs and glimpses from the photoshoot on social media, recreating the film’s iconic poster. While she stepped into Sridevi’s look, social media personality Orry recreated the appearance of late actor Rishi Kapoor.
Sharing the pictures on Instagram, Janhvi described the recreation as a tribute to one of Indian cinema’s most memorable film moments.
“Happy Halloweeeeeny. Had to recreate one of the most iconic movie moments everrrrr,” she wrote.
In another part of her post, the actress reflected on how Halloween has increasingly become an occasion for people to dress up as their favourite fictional characters and celebrate popular culture.
“Sometimes they’re spooky, sometimes they’re funny, and sometimes it’s a tribute. And who could possibly be more iconic than Mumma, Rishi uncle and Amrish sir!! Got a little help from for the lewk,” she added.
Janhvi’s younger sister Khushi Kapoor was quick to react to the pictures, commenting, “You have won Halloween.”
The recreation brought the spotlight back on ‘Nagina’, directed and produced by Harmesh Malhotra under the banner of Eastern Films.
Written by Ravi Kapoor, with the story by Jagmohan Kapoor, the film featured Sridevi as Rajni, a shape-shifting serpent woman who marries Rajiv, played by Rishi Kapoor, to avenge the death of her husband at the hands of an evil saint.
The film also starred Amrish Puri, Komal Mahuvakar, Sushma Seth and Prem Chopra in important roles.
Released on November 28, 1986, ‘Nagina’ emerged as a major box-office success and became the second-highest-grossing Indian film of that year. Sridevi’s performance and the film’s fantasy elements helped establish it as one of the memorable films of her career.
Sridevi, one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated actresses, died in Dubai in February 2018 at the age of 54. Her death was attributed to accidental drowning.
Janhvi has often spoken about her mother and her influence on her life and career. Her Halloween recreation of ‘Nagina’ offered a nostalgic tribute to Sridevi, while introducing the iconic film look to a new generation of social media users. (Source: IANS)
